The AAII Philadelphia Chapter presents...

Is Our Nation on an Unsustainable Fiscal Path?

    Discussed by:
    Jeffrey S. Thiebert
National Grassroots Director and Northeast Regional Director, The Concord Coalition

If you are absolutely sure that the U.S. government will never default on its U.S. Treasury securities, FDIC deposit guarantees, Social Security and Medicare, and if you are responsible for your and/or your children’s financial security, then please sit down before reading further. If you carefully follow the financial press, you should be quite worried: the head of the Chinese central bank wants to remove the reserve currency status of the U.S. dollar; Medicare is a decade or so from bankruptcy and Social Security is close behind; a very successful investment manager wrote that U.S. Treasury securities will probably lose their AAA credit ratings. Although you probably have some sense that all of this has been caused by our budget deficits, you may have no idea how huge and intractable this problem is. Jeffrey Thiebert will very effectively remedy that situation. If you have financial responsibility for yourself and/or your family, we urge you to attend this meeting.

Focus Presentation: “Preparing for the No-Longer Unthinkable”

    Discussed by:
    Dr. Gerald B. Levin

How would you function economically in a world in which: • America’s economy is merely one of many? • The U.S. dollar continues to depreciate against major foreign currencies? • Both foreign and domestic investors suspect that the Treasury will default on its debt? Dr. Gerald Levin will give possible answers to those questions, and will suggest ways for you to partially shield yourself from the scenarios described by those answers. Specifically, he will tell you how to open FDIC-insured (for whatever that will be worth) bank accounts denominated in foreign currencies, buy ETFs and mutual funds that invest in commodity futures, and buy mutual funds that invest in foreign stocks and bonds—among other ideas. He will name specific investments and show you how to do further research on your own.
